La Palma (the island, not to be confused with a resort in Gran Canaria with a similar name), is one of Spain’s Canary Islands, off northwestern Africa. Its rugged, forested terrain is dotted with volcanoes like Teneguía and Cumbre Vieja. The island’s capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma, is a port town with narrow cobbled streets and houses with wooden balconies.
The capital Santa Cruz is a pretty town and only a very short walk away from the docking area. The tourist information office can advise on walking routes and with one you are rewarded with a lovely view over the town towards the port from the “fortress” at the far end of town.
The town and marina area is very modern and although small has everything you need, including a Spar shop to stock up.
Suggestions
To really see this beautiful island a full Island tour would be a good choice. There will be taxis available at the port.
Caldera de Taburiente National Park; If you are on this island, it is a must to visit what seems like “the top of the world “. The views on a clear day are awesome, and one can see as far as the islands of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro. The ride to the top is a little scary because of the windy roads, however, when you reach the top it is well worth it.
Bosque de Los Tilos;
There is an Observatory here, but you will need to organise this yourself before you go.

It looks like a huge company but it is just him and his wife. You have luxury travel in his air-conditioned car and his tour of the Island is down the east coast, stopping for lunch, then up the west coast and across the centre back to the harbour. About 7 hours in total, with many photo and shopping stops, €120. His English is very good.
Beaches; There is a nice beach not far from La Palma and a nice prom, it is pretty opposite where the ship berths.
